Children with Disabilities

JBSD Cares:   Children with Disabilities

Sometimes students struggle and when this happens, we are here to help.  We have a variety of services available.  Please inquire with a teacher, a principal or Dr. Mary Jefferson-Gough, our Elementary Principal and Director of Special Education, if you have any questions about the services we provide or disabilities.  Please call us at 330-876-2860 for more information.

Disabilities may include such conditions as hearing impairments, visual impairments, speech or language impairments, specific learning disabilities, emotional disturbances, autism, and traumatic brain injuries.  Many unidentified children with disabilities are preschoolers.  Parents may not be aware their child has a disability or that there are programs and services available.

Highly Qualified (HQT)

As a parent, you have the right to request information about the professional qualifications of your child’s teacher and any teachers’ aides working with your child. Specifically, you may request information regarding the following items: the teacher’s certification/license qualifications, the status of the certificate/license (if it is emergency or provisional), and the subject areas of the teacher’s college degree and graduate school credit. If your child’s teacher is assisted by an instructional aide, you may also ask about the aide’s qualifications.

All teachers in the Joseph Badger Local School District meet the federal requirement to be highly qualified.  Joseph Badger is proud of our staff. Our teachers are committed to their profession and the children they serve each day. They look forward to having a successful year with your child.

Please call your building principal at 330-876-2800, if you have any questions.
